Với việc Mozilla cho ra đời hàng loạt phiên bản của Firefox, chúng ta có thể thấy một trình duyệt với hiệu suất và tính bảo mật ngày càng được cải thiện. Tuy nhiên bất chấp những cải tiến này, Firefox vẫn chỉ là một trình duyệt dành cho hệ thống 32-bit. Trong khi chờ đợi các lập trình viên Mozilla của chúng ta tung ra phiên bản Firefox 64-bit chính thức, Waterfox sẽ là một trình duyệt hay để bạn tham khảo.
Waterfox được viết dựa trên mã nguồn mở của Mozilla Firefox, nhưng các nhà phát triển đã tối ưu hóa để Waterfox tương thích hoàn toàn với hệ thống Windows 64-bit. Vì thế bạn có thể bắt gặp một “cáo nước” chạy nhanh và mượt mà hơn so với “cáo lửa” cùng nền tảng.
Về tính tương thích của các Plug-in và Add-ons thì bạn hãy yên tâm vì Waterfox hoàn toàn không gặp chút vấn đề nào cả. Mặt khác, một số tiện ích phổ biến như Adobe Flash, Sun Java cũng được các nhà phát triển thiết kế lại đảm bảo tương thích hoàn toàn với môi trường 64-bit.
Một điểm khá hữu ích nữa của Waterfox là bạn không cần làm bất cứ điều gì để sửa lại các thiết đặt cá nhân vì Waterfox sử dụng chung hồ sơ người dùng với Firefox. Nhưng vì vậy cần chú ý khi bạn muốn tháo gỡ Waterfox, nếu tích vào Remove personal data, Firefox của bạn sẽ trở về nguyên trạng.
